Classes
Let's go.
Wrestling Club
Middle School and up
Students from Jr high to high school and beyond, with special consideration given to experienced elementary wrestlers, are trained in the fundamentals of takedowns, takedown defense, and folkstyle top and bottom positions. Because jiu jitsu matched all begin in the stand-up position, crossover is encouraged for learning modern jiu jitsu techniques alongside traditional wrestling techniques.

Youth Jiu Jitsu
Kids Age 4 to 12
Traditionally referred to as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), this grappling martial art is having a big moment of change. Originally derived from Judo, BJJ inherited the formal attire and attitude of a Japanese martial art. In recent years, American wrestlers have begun competing in the sport, making it more wrestling-focused.
At TTC, we develop traditional Brazilian-style guard and submission techniques with an emphasis on wrestling pressure to create more well-rounded athletes. Like any martial art, the commitment to advancing in belt levels and skill helps to develop a sense of personal responsibility. We highlight the discipline needed to improve in sports in general, while encouraging creativity in the young athlete to develop a style uniquely theirs. Most youth training is done with the gi.

-
Tiny Tuskers is for kids aged 4-6, mainly focused on movement and preparing young ones for grappling fundamentals.
-
Juniors jiu jitsu will focus on grappling skills to prepare kids aged 6-12 for wrestling, jiu jitsu, and submission grappling competition.
Adult Jiu Jitsu
Similar to the kids’ program, our adult training is based in wrestling and traditional Brazilian jiu jitsu. The pace and pressure of wrestling is encouraged, while the technique and precision of BJJ is drilled. Fundamentals classes highlight drilling techniques, combined with positional games and live training to encourage creativity. Advanced classes take it a step further, with a significant emphasis on positional games and live training. The goal is to help students develop a grappling game that will develop strength, coordination, stamina and flexibility, while helping to create success in competition. A couple months in fundamentals classes is encouraged before moving into the advanced class. Most fundamental classes are conducted with the gi, and advanced classes combine both gi and nogi techniques and training, often in the same class.

Belt promotions
Grappling martial arts have different belt systems. Wrestling offers no belt system, while jiu jitsu, judo, sambo, and krav maga offer various belt schemes and promotion systems. Brooks is a second-degree BJJ black belt recognized by the ibjjf. As a former college wrestler, he believes there are more to belt systems and non belt training systems. At Tusker Grappling, we have adopted the BJJ-style belt system for kids and adults. While many schools base promotions on attendance, we promote based on skill level, consistent competition results, and mindset or attitude. If you have any questions about how students are promoted, feel free to ask!
